Dynamics of Congo Basin forests
In order to preserve the forests in the long term, the reform of the forest codes of the States of Central Africa (1994-2002) made it compulsory to draw up management plans. These plans define rules for the sustainable harvesting of the wood resource based on dual knowledge: the state of the resource to be exploited and its forecast dynamics, the challenge being not to harvest more than what can be produced. . There are very few devices well suited to determining forest dynamics parameters in the Congo Basin.
CIRAD offers its support to harmonize protocols, in close collaboration with operators.
