Genetic improvement of forest species

Key words
  • The demand for wood and non-wood forest products continues to grow and diversify (food, medicine, paper pulp, charcoal, alternative energy, etc.). For forest plantations, the challenge is to exploit genetic diversity to provide improved varieties, while ensuring the sustainability of the plantations and limiting the impact on the environment.

To this end, CIRAD is developing genetic improvement strategies and multi-criteria selection processes to obtain varieties
adapted to the needs of its public or industrial partners.

CIRAD is involved in all stages of improvement and
    multiplication of forest species
