Nature conservation has long been considered a separate scientific field, different from land management approaches such as agriculture or forestry. For several years, the scientific community has sought to integrate all of these approaches. Indeed, the way in which humans have modified ecosystems to meet growing needs for food, water, wood, fiber and fuel in the last 50 years has caused a considerable and often irreversible loss of biodiversity. The poorest people on the planet are particularly affected.
