    The Institute of Environment and Agricultural Research of Burkina Faso (INERA) is one of the four specialized institutes of the National Center for Scientific and Technological Research (CNRST). It is in charge of agricultural and environmental studies and research. Its history can be summarized as follows:

    • 1960-1978: Research activities are carried out by the French institutes IRAT, IRCT, IRHO, CTFT,
    • 1978: Creation of the Agronomic Research Institute (IRA);
    • 1981: Creation of the Voltaic Institute for Agronomic and Zootechnical Research (IVRAZ) and the Institute for Research in Biology and Tropical Ecology (IRBET);
    • 1988: IVRAZ becomes Institute of Agricultural Studies and Research (INERA);
    • 1996: Creation of the Institute for the Environment and Agricultural Research (INERA) from the merger of the Institute for Agricultural Studies and Research and the Institute for Research in Biology and Tropical Ecology.

    • decentralize and regionalize agricultural, environmental and forestry research with the aim of bringing research closer to its users and promoting optimal development of regional agricultural, environmental and forestry potential;
    • ensure the link between research and development, including the transfer of technologies and innovations to users.
