    About Us :

    The Compagnie Malienne pour le Développement des Textiles (CMDT) is a joint stock company created in 1974. It is an essential link in the cotton production chain in Mali. The CMDT is managed by a Board of Directors composed of 11 members, including 08 for the State of Mali, 02 for cotton producers and 01 for GEOCOTON (French Company). It is managed by a Chairman and Managing Director, assisted by a Deputy Managing Director and supported by nine Central Directors as well as five Managing Directors of the Subsidiaries (Sud.sa, Nord Est.sa, Centre.sa, Ouest.sa and the Office of Cotton Ranking Based in Koutiala).

    The capital of the company is 7,982,340,000 FCFA held by the Malian State in majority at 99.49% and by the French partner GEOCOTON at 0.51%. As for that of the four CMDT subsidiaries, it is 20% owned by producers through the National Confederation of Cotton Producers' Cooperative Societies (CN-SCPC) and 80% by CMDT Holding.

    Our mission:

    • Agricultural advice for cotton producers;
    • Primary marketing of seed cotton;
    • Transportation and ginning of seed cotton;
    • Sale of cottonseed to local crushing industries;
    • The sale of cotton fiber for export and to the Malian textile industries.

    Our areas of intervention:

    The CMDT's area of intervention covers an area of 134,518 km2. It includes 3,346 administrative villages, with a population of approximately 4,108,849 inhabitants. The villages are divided into 244 communes. The CMDT covers the entire administrative region of Sikasso and part of the administrative regions of Kayes, Koulikoro and Ségou.

    At the agricultural level:

    The CMDT supervises the production of the cotton system (cotton, maize, millet, sorghum, legumes). This production is ensured mainly by 212,670 family farms cultivating an average of 10 ha including 1/3 cotton and 2/3 cereals-legumes .

    These farms are grouped into 7,259 Cotton Producers Cooperative Societies (SCPC) spread over the four production subsidiaries.

    At the industrial level, the cotton sector has :

    • 18 ginning factories (03 new factories are planned);
    • 113 utility vehicles;
    • 236 seed cotton transport trucks and bale handling machines;
    • 12 civil engineering vehicles;
    • 5,000 kilometers of rural tracks;
    • 01 link manufacturing workshop;
    • 01 boilermaking workshop;

    On a commercial level:

    The administration of the contracts (official back) is a very important criterion in the assessment of an origin. Over the past few years, the CMDT has acquired a very strong reputation not only in terms of compliance with contractual clauses (quality or type, silk quantity, shipment date), but also in terms of providing the documentation necessary to allow the trader to deliver his client on time and honor his commitments.

    The efforts made by the cotton sector at all levels of the value chain and the performance achieved in this area have enabled Malian cotton not only to be very well appreciated on the international market but also and above all to be the highest-ranked origin by Cotlook, among the African origins retained and entering into the determination of the A index of Cotlook of Liverpool.

    As proof, because of its highly valued quality, Malian cotton now enjoys a premium, for equivalent quality, compared to other African origins.

    Our outlook for 2019 to 2025:

    The 2013-2018 Cotton Sector Strategic Development Program (PDS-FC) has come to an end and the development of the new 2020 - 2025 program is underway.
