The protection of human health and respect for the environment have led to the progressive restriction or prohibition of certain biocides.

To improve the lifespan of wood-based products and structures, CIRAD conducts research to promote a match between the durability of wood and the service life of structures: to do this, it assesses the natural durability, seeks to understand its determinism and develops new wood treatment products and processes with low environmental impact.
